Visitor Information Centre celebrates 25 years in operation
Victor Harbor’s Visitor Information Centre celebrates 25 years in operation this month.
The centre opened its doors in 1988 and services more than 50,000 visitors each year.
To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the Visitor Information Centre will hold a public open day from 10am until 4pm on Tuesday, 15 October.
The open day is an opportunity for locals to see that the services provided by the centre are not only for tourists.
There will be entertainment throughout the open day with a performance from Victor Harbor Primary School Year 1 class and an Aboriginal contemporary art and cultural demonstration by artist Allan Sumner.
The open day is also the launch of the Visitor Information Centre wall art community consultation.

Renewable energy program to help businesses reduce energy costs
Council has launched its second renewable energy program to help Fleurieu businesses reduce their energy costs.
The Commercial Purchase of Renewable Energy Program (C-PREP 2) provides businesses, including primary producers, with access to affordable solar energy solutions.
Initiated by the City of Victor Harbor, the program is supported by neighbouring councils of Alexandrina and Yankalilla.
C-PREP 2 builds on the success of Council’s original renewable energy program that was rolled out to more than 5000 households in 2009/10 and, resulted in millions of dollars of power savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
Fleurieu businesses looking to take advantage of the affordable solar packages on offer need to register their details with the City of Victor Harbor and pay a $110 registration fee. The registration fee will be invested back into renewable energy projects through a Renewable Energy Fund.

Author Visit - Nicole Alexander
The Civic Centre was a buzzing with excitement on 17 September when author, Nicole Alexander, came to talk about her latest novel Sunset Ridge.
Nicole, from a fourth generation grazier family, used her grandfather’s diaries as inspiration for Sunset Ridge. The novel interweaves two narratives set in different time periods; France on the western front during World War 1 and western Queensland in the present day.
Nicole talked about her new book, her love for the Australian outback which she describes ‘as undefinable as the Southern Cross’ and how she juggles writing with full time work on the station.
Our next author event will be held on 15 October from 11am where local author Victoria Purman will be on hand to talk about her latest book.
