Strong Uptake of Farm Business Support Grants

The City of Victor Harbor’s Farm Business Support Grant Program is making a tangible difference to local primary producers.

The Council is delivering the Farm Business Support Grant Program to provide immediate financial assistance to local farmers facing a range of operational pressures due to ongoing drought conditions.

The program, launched in April 2025, provides eligible applicants the opportunity to apply for up to $2,500 (ex GST) to support costs of:

  • Power bills for water pumping for livestock
  • Water, feed, fodder and other farm supplies
  • Freight expenses for water or feed.

To date, 26 applications have been received, with 14 already approved and funded. The response from grant recipients has been overwhelmingly appreciative. Many have expressed sincere gratitude, with some sharing that they had postponed purchasing essential items until funding was confirmed. A few recipients were even moved to tears upon learning of their successful applications.

Grant applications continue to be welcomed by Council. Council encourages all eligible landowners to apply for the Farm Business Support Grant and to reach out for further support where needed.

In addition to the local grant program, Council staff are available to assist primary producers in identifying and applying for other support opportunities, including relevant state and federal government grants. Council can also refer farmers to additional services such as Rural Business Support, which offers rural financial counselling and other specialised assistance.
