Victor Harbor Library Opening Hours Are Expanding

Published 18th June 2025
The Victor Harbor Library is making small changes to its opening hours to make a big difference to our community.

In response to community feedback, the Victor Harbor Library will expand its opening hours from Tuesday, 1 July 2025. The Library will open earlier on weekdays (9am) and stay open later on Saturdays (until 2pm). Opening hours will be as follows:

Monday: 9am - 5pm
Tuesday: 9am - 5pm
Wednesday: 9am - 6pm
Thursday: 9am - 5pm
Friday: 9am - 5pm
Saturday: 9.30am - 2pm
Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed

These small changes will allow greater access to Library resources for families, students and the weekday working community.

Chief Executive Officer, Victoria MacKirdy, said the decision to increase opening hours is a direct response to community feedback.

“Community desire for longer Library opening hours was first identified in the Library Service Review undertaken in 2020, and has been researched further over the past 18 months. Council has listened to the feedback and increased the opening hours,” said Ms MacKirdy.

“I’m extremely proud of the Library team and the service they provide. Each year, we record around 120,000 visits to the Library, with up to 500 visitors per day. The team provides a range of excellent resources, events, facilities and programs that are adored by the community.”

The Library not only has an expansive collection of resources for borrowing but also provides information technology facilities such as free Wi-Fi, public computing and printing facilities.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor, Dr Moira Jenkins, regularly hears from residents and visitors about how much they love the Library.

“The Library is an inviting space for all community members to learn, relax and socialise. It’s especially warm and cosy during the winter months, when all you may want to do is huddle up with a good book,” said Mayor Jenkins.

“Opening earlier on weekdays and staying open later on Saturdays means more people can access our Library and take advantage of the facilities on offer.”
