Loneliness Awareness Week 2026
Make Room for Connections during Loneliness Awareness Week
1 in 2 people living in Australia are lonely and/or socially isolated. It's one of the most common human experiences, yet one of the least talked about.
Loneliness Awareness week, taking place 3–9 August 2026, is an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about loneliness and promoting connection. This year’s theme is "Make Room for Connection" encouraging us to make the small but meaningful actions to help people feel included, welcome and valued.
Creating opportunities for connection and belonging can be as simple as:
- Inviting someone to join a conversation
- Saving a seat at a community event
- Checking in with a neighbour
- Offering a smile and a friendly greeting
- Encouraging someone to join in a local group or community activity
