Environmental Groups

We need environmental volunteers!

The City of Victor Harbor is currently searching for environmental volunteers to assist with a range of projects and initiatives. If you enjoy gardening and working outdoors, you may be able to assist Council's efforts to conserve and maintain our stunning natural environment.

Volunteering among our natural environment has many benefits, including connecting with like-minded people, gaining experience and learning new skills, finding out more about our local flora and fauna, and having a great sense of contributing to the enhancement of our local biodiversity.

Opportunities exist among some of our natural bushland reserves, our beautiful river environments, and Victor Harbor’s stunning coastline.

Some of the tasks you may be able to assist with include:

  • Stabilising sand dunes by establishing local plants along the coastline,
  • Increasing native vegetation by planting local plant species,
  • Watering young plants through the summer months,
  • Improving habitat for local fauna by removing weedy plants,
  • Providing input to signage, and
  • Participating in group activities such as nature walks.

For more information about becoming a volunteer, visit our volunteering webpage or contact 8551 0500 or localgov@victor.sa.gov.au

There are several local environmental groups that play a vital role in helping to protect our natural surrounds.

Victor Harbor Coastcare Group

Victor Harbor Coastcare is a group of local community volunteers who are interested in preserving the coastline. Their aim is to promote, protect and restore the coastal environment of the Victor Harbor area, in particular the area from The Bluff to just east of the Hindmarsh River.

The group attends monthly meetings, field trips and working bees. They are involved in various activities including: eradicating weeds and pests, propagating and planting native dune plants, constructing boardwalks, trails, signs and fencing.

For further information, refer to the Victor Harbor Coastcare Brochure(1311 kb) or visit the Victor Harbor Coastcare website.

Trees for Life

The City of Victor Harbor has an ongoing partnership with Trees For Life (TFL) through its Bush For Life program. TFL provide training, equipment and ongoing support to volunteers for minimal disturbance bush regeneration on some of our most precious bushland reserves (Bush For Life sites). Community members can either adopt a Bush For Life site or come to our supervised group activities.

For more information, please refer to the Trees for Life website.
