Stage 1 of The Bluff Master Plan was completed in November, and enhances and protects the region’s iconic landmark through a designated viewing platform, walking paths and cultural storytelling elements.

Designed by landscape architect Corey Brown of Hatch Design with significant community input and constructed by Base Civil, the first stage of The Bluff Master Plan has already garnered positive public feedback.

Now, The Bluff Master Plan has been awarded a second industry accolade, taking out the Planning Institute Australia’s (PIA) South Australian Award for Planning Excellence – Community Wellbeing and Diversity.

Judges commented on the range of engagement tools and mechanisms used to seek feedback on the design and recognised the plan’s alignment with regional strategies ensuring long-term sustainability, through balancing tourism growth and ecological preservation.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins said the low-impact enhancement promotes the Bluff as an area of high cultural and ecological value.

“From the dreaming artwork to the intentional upcycling of materials, the first stage of The Bluff Master Plan highlights Council’s commitment to cultural diversity and protection of our natural environment,” she said.

“The Bluff is an important Victor Harbor landmark, and the upgrades invite visitors – local or otherwise – to stay a while, take in the view and experience the magic of this coastal environment.

“The Bluff Master Plan is an example of successful collaboration. It was developed from extensive public input and is a brilliant example of the community and Council joining forces, with over 700 residents and visitors contributing to the design process.”

Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation representative and artist Cedric Varcoe guided and designed the cultural artwork featured in the location’s carpark and viewing platform.
