We've been recognised for initiatives that promote accessibility and cross council collaboration.

Council is extremely proud to have taken home two awards at the LG Professionals SA Leadership Excellence Awards on Friday, 9 May 2025.

Winner - Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion - Accessibility in Action: Supporting a Council Member who is Blind

The City of Victor Harbor was awarded the Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award for its initiative, Accessibility in Action: Supporting a Council Member who is Blind.

When Cr Angela Schiller became South Australia's first Council Member who is blind, the groundbreaking Accessibility in Action project was launched to ensure accessible participation in Council life. Funded by the LG Research and Development Scheme, it delivered a practical, shareable toolkit with strategies, assistive tech, and streamlined processes. Now adopted sector-wide, this initiative sets a benchmark for inclusive governance and empowers councils to better support leaders of all abilities.

Winner - Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration - Murray River and Fleurieu Study Hubs Program

The City of Victor Harbor, alongside Alexandrina Council, Berri Barmera Council, Coorong District Council, District Council of Yankalilla and Rural City of Murray Bridge, was awarded the Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration Award for the Murray River and Fleurieu Study Hubs Program.

Spanning 11,000 km² and uniting four councils, the Study Hub Program has reshaped regional education - bringing university access closer to home for hundreds. With $3.7M secured since 2018 and over 350 learners supported, this cross-council initiative is addressing skills gaps, boosting local economies, and lifting tertiary attainment in areas where fewer than 10% once held degrees. A powerful model of collaboration, innovation, and community transformation.
