Giles Street Stormwater Project
In 2024, the City of Victor Harbor undertook a project to address inadequate stormwater infrastructure on Giles Street (from Tabernacle Road to Fell Street) in Encounter Bay.
Project Aims
In the past, poor stormwater systems have threatened homes and infrastructure and led to low-lying flooding on Giles Street, Encounter Bay.
This project ultimately aimed to enable a safe, well-maintained, fit-for-purpose drainage system.
Works undertaken as part of the project included:
- Installation of a new underground drainage system
- Re-construction and re-surfacing of the roadway
- Installation of new kerb and gutter
- Installation of a new footpath
The need to upgrade Giles Street was outlined in Council’s Stormwater Master Plan.
Timeline
Preliminary work for this project commenced in late June 2024 and major construction works commenced in July/August 2024.
