Council has made a submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Local Government Funding and Fiscal Sustainability.

At its meeting on 27 January 2026, Council endorsed a formal submission to the Australian Parliament’s Inquiry into Local Government Funding and Fiscal Sustainability.

What is the inquiry about?

The inquiry examines the financial relationship between local government and other levels of government in Australia, with a particular emphasis on funding mechanisms and fiscal sustainability.

Our submission

Council’s submission outlines the challenges facing regional councils like Victor Harbor in delivering essential services and infrastructure to a growing and ageing community, while managing increasing costs and regulatory responsibilities.

It calls for funding arrangements that are sufficient, equitable and provide long‑term certainty so councils can continue to support their communities and plan sustainably for the future.
