4,500 plants to be planted this winter
Key locations that will be targeted include the Hindmarsh River, Inman River, Oliver’s Parade and Armstrong Road.
A variety of endemic grasses, shrubs and trees that suit the local climate and complement existing flora have been selected.
The Winter Planting Program will be carried out by Council’s Open Spaces Team with support from several hard-working volunteer groups. Local students have also gotten involved, with Year 7s from Investigator College planting over 80 seedlings along the Inman River at Bruce Reserve.
Native plants offer endless benefits for our community - they purify our air, create shelter, cool our neighbourhoods, provide habitat and food for wildlife, reduce erosion, and beautify our town.
Winter can be an excellent time to plant, particularly trees and shrubs, because it allows them to establish their root systems before the stress of warmer months.
