Planning for Victor Harbor’s future housing needs

Planning for Victor Harbor's future housing needs

Council is undertaking a review of housing needs within Victor Harbor, and is seeking your feedback.

The City of Victor Harbor council area is one of the fastest growing regional populations in South Australia. Currently sitting at 14,600, the population is expected to reach around 21,000 by 2036. To support this growth, the Council is looking at strategies to ensure there is sufficient land available to house Victor Harbor’s population over the next 20 years.

We want to hear your feedback on the proposed strategies. Do you agree with the proposed changes to housing density in some areas of Victor Harbor? What do you think about the measures to protect the town’s character and preserve its landscape amenity?

Join the discussion about the proposed changes online at www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au/residentialreview

This consultation has been extended to close at 5pm on Friday, 19 August 2016.

A new place brand for Victor Harbor

What is it about this place?!?? Draft Concepts

Last year we asked you to tell us what is special about Victor Harbor, and the response was overwhelming. Close to 700 voices shared their thoughts and feelings about Victor Harbor, and one thing was clear – there is a lot to love! The stories you shared have been used to develop draft place brand values and place brand logos for Victor Harbor.

The place brand values centre on opportunity, nature, community and encounters in Victor Harbor. The proposed values aim to sum up Victor Harbor as a place of opportunity where you can have it all surrounded by a world class natural landscape and a welcoming community, with a diversity of experiences on offer.

We want to know what you think of the draft values and logo concepts.  Tell us here or keep an eye out for the “What is it about this place!?!!” postcard in your mailbox.

Share your thoughts before 5pm on Tuesday, 30 August 2016.

Mainstreet Upgrade Update August 2016

Stage 1 of Victor Harbor’s Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade reached a significant milestone last week with the four feature palm trees planted at the intersection of Coral and Ocean streets. See the trees being installed in a video captured by The Times.

With the palms in, planter boxes complete and paving progressing well, the first stage of the upgrade is taking shape and on track for completion at the end of the month.

Over the next couple of weeks work will continue on the paving, the gardens beds will be planted, street furniture and lights will be installed.

Next time you head into the Mainstreet Precinct, don’t forget to take your ‘I’m In’ voucher booklet with a number of great offers and discounts from your Mainstreet Traders.

Council and the Mainstreet Traders will be celebrating the completion of Stage 1 with a Street Party on Friday, 16 September 2016.

There will be live music, entertainment, street food, stalls and more! Plus, it will be the launch of the digital art projection on the Victa Cinema.

Don’t miss this great community event!

Elector Representation Review

Council has progressed its Elector Representation Review by appointing Craig Rowe and Associates to prepare a Representation Options Paper.

The Options Paper must examine the advantages and disadvantages of the options available in respect to a range of issues relating to the composition and structure of Council.   Council should also examine issues such as over-representation in comparison to other councils of a similar size and/or whether the existing ‘no wards’ structure should be retained in favour of introducing wards.

Council selected a number of ward structure options for inclusion in the Options Paper at its Special Council meeting held on 8 August 2016. The paper is being adjusted to reflect these options and it will available for public consultation between 18 August and 30 September.

More information will be available at www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au next week.
