Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre facts

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre (FRAC) project, a joint initiative of the Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbor, brings to fruition our communities’ long term aspiration for an aquatic facility of the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula.
In recent times there have been a number of claims made about the project relating to the probity, design and cost of the FRAC. The councils have released a statement addressing these points to provide some balance and assurance both councils are working to achieve the best outcome for their communities.
The FRAC is currently on track for completion by March 2017 with the construction tender to be released in the coming weeks.

New York inspired food experience to 'pop up' on Granite Island

Victor Harbor locals and visitors will soon be able to get a taste of New York on Granite Island as a part of the City of Victor Harbor’s Rediscover Granite Island campaign.
Two talented Victor Harbor locals have been successful in Council’s call for expressions of interest for vendors of pop up food and fun with a proposal to combine their skills to present ‘Castaway- the Baker and the Chef in La Pura Vida Van’.
Castaway offers an exciting New York style gourmet food experience. Visitors to Granite Island will smell the delights of coffee and freshly baked goods like bagels and croissants. Also on offer will be cool drinks, gourmet burgers, pies and home-baked sweet treats.
The talent behind Castaway, Nick Rafanelli and Ben Lewis (pictured), are excited to bring this new experience to Granite Island.
Castaway is set to be up and running on the Island by Thursday, 2 April, ready for a busy Easter weekend. There is also an element of fun planned for the long weekend with Kenny the Happiness Man playing some classic tunes and spreading happiness. The Honey Puff Ladies will also be on the Island selling honey puffs on Monday, and there will be a henna body artist on 4 and 6 April.

Horse Tram features on Australia Post Stamp

Earlier this month Australia Post released a new stamp series that features the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram. The four stamp set celebrates tourist transport across Australia. Our Horse Drawn Tram features alongside a seaplane from Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands, the Puffing Billy steam train from Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges and a cruise boat from Katherine Gorge in the Northern Territory.
Being chosen to appear within this stamp series is a great accolade for Victor Harbor, and will strengthen our position as a premier tourist destination. It also provides an opportunity for world-wide exposure as the stamps are used to send letters to destinations around the globe.
The Tourist Stamp issue can be purchased from selected Australia Post outlets and online at www.auspost.com.au/stamps while stocks last.

Health and wellbeing in our community
Keeping well and healthy is about so much more than treating illness. Healthy communities include open spaces, places to be active, a clean environment and nutritious food. Getting an education, having work, contributing to your community and having access to the services you need are also important to healthy living.
A regional public health plan has been developed through the Southern and Hills Local Government Association for the Adelaide Hills Council, Kangaroo Island Council, District Council of Mount Barker, City of Victor Harbor and the District Council of Yankalilla.
The Public Health Plan is a requirement of the South Australian Public Health Act 2011 and will assist the councils to continue to provide healthy environments and support healthy lifestyles across the region. The Public Health Plan will also support planning and partnerships relating to public health.
View the draft findings and directions report and the background report, and submit your feedback online.
Hard copies of the report and feedback form are available in council offices and libraries.
Consultation closes at 5pm on Friday, 10 April 2015.
