Have your say: Future options for kerbside waste collection
The City of Victor Harbor is looking at future options for kerbside waste collection in the council area, and is inviting the community to share the feedback on potential options.
In addition to the current service being provided in the City of Victor Harbor council area (weekly collection of general waste and four-weekly collection of both green organics and recycling), three alternate options for kerbside waste collection have been identified:
-
Option A – fortnightly collection of general waste, green organics and recycling
-
Option B – weekly collection of general waste, fortnightly collection of green organics and recycling
-
Option C – weekly collection of general waste, fortnightly collection of recycling and four-weekly collection of green organics.
The Council is asking the community to share their thoughts on the options, as well as their feedback on the current service to ensure the next step is best for both the community and the environment.
To find out more about the kerbside waste collection options and share your feedback visit www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au/kerbsidecollection or collect a hard copy from the City of Victor Harbor Civic Centre (1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor).

Seeking independent members for Horse Tram Committee
The City of Victor Harbor is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons to be appointed as independent members of its Horse Tram Committee.
Council resolved to re-establish the Section 41 Committee in March 2016 after considering the outcomes of the Horse Tram Operations Independent Service Review. The Committee’s role will be to provide advice to Council regarding the implementation of recommendations resulting from the service review.
The Horse Tram Committee will play a key role in overseeing an expression of interest process calling for submissions from parties interested in entering into a contract to run the horse tram operation. The Committee will also review the Horse Tram Operations Manual and provide Council with any further recommendations for its consideration.
The Committee will be made up of two elected members – Cr Carol Schofield (Chair) and Cr Terry Andrews – and three independent members. The Council has outlined that independent members will have extensive professional experience in heavy horses, business management and/or the tourism industry.
Those interested in nominating as an independent member of the Horse Tram Committee should forward their expression of interest detailing their experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications to the City of Victor Harbor’s Chief Executive Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, 11 May 2016.

Works to commence on Mainstreet Upgrade from 2 May
Work is set to commence on Stage 1 of the highly anticipated Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade from 2 May 2016.
Works will involve new paving, feature lighting, garden beds, street furniture, landscaping, drainage and feature art.
It will be business as usual in the Mainstreet Precinct for the majority of the construction period, which is due to be complete in August 2016. However, with projects of this nature it is inevitable that there will be disruptions, but our project team will be working to minimise these as much as possible.
To ensure your safety around the construction zone, it is important to be aware of signage and detours that are in place (both for pedestrians and motorists). Areas of Coral Street (near the Ocean Street intersection) will be closed during the construction period, as outlined in the diagram to the right. Ocean Street will remain open to vehicles for the majority of the construction period, with the exception of a seven (7) day closure in July.
Ocean Street Closure - 25 July to 31 July 2016
Please be advised that Ocean Street will be closed for one week from 25 July to 31 July. While Ocean Street will be closed to vehicles, there will be pedestrian access to the Precinct at all times. It is recommended that members of the community use the car parks along Railway Terrace and McKinlay Street, where possible, and access the Mainstreet Precinct using the various pedestrian laneways(External link).
There will be some impact to parking on Coral and Ocean streets during the upgrade. Council has developed a map that identifies parking areas to make it easier you to park in the Precinct.

Councils lead the way with aquatic centre project

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Project has taken out the Community Partnerships and Collaboration Award at the Local Government Professionals Australia, SA Leadership Excellence Gala Awards.
The Awards, held on Friday 15 April, recognised the services and programs that local government delivers to their communities, and the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Project was commended for its leading approach to cross-council collaboration.
In presenting the award to the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council, the Local Government Professionals Australia (SA) highlighted the outstanding teamwork the councils demonstrated in getting the project to proceed from concept to construction in a relatively short period for such a large scale project.
It is not common for councils to build major infrastructure together but the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project has shown it is possible, and the councils are extremely proud to have brought this project to fruition to provide huge benefits for our communities.
The project will now be showcased nationally as a finalist in the Community Partnerships and Collaboration category of the Local Government Professionals Australia Federation Awards. The Federation Award winners will be announced on 6 May.
The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project is on track for completion in March 2017. To keep up to date with the latest project news visit www.fleurieuaquaticcentre.com.au
