Find out more about the new community plan

A place that celebrates life, inspires opportunity and empowers community – that is what the City of Victor Harbor is proposing as the new vision for the council area as it commences the development of a new Community Plan.

The plan will be developed in consultation with the community over the next year and will help shape the future of Victor Harbor over the next 20 years. The Community Plan will play an important role in how Council will respond to both the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Changes to Kerbside Waste Collection

Representatives from the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) will be on hand in the City of Victor Harbor Civic Centre from 10am to 2pm on Friday, 20 November to answer your questions about the changes to kerbside collection.

The City of Victor Harbor recently endorsed the fortnightly collection of domestic waste, green organics and recyclables for implementation in 2016/17.

The decision was based on investigation and research undertaken by FRWA between 2012 and 2014. This research included public consultation, several region-wide bin audits and a pilot program between October 2013 and February 2014 in Hayborough.

To help residents further understand the changes to their waste collection service, FRWA and the City of Victor Harbor will host a ‘drop-in’ session at the Civic Centre, 1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor.

If you can’t make it to the Council Office on 20 November, there are other ways you can find out more including viewing the extensive list of frequently asked questions online at www.frwa.com.au under kerbside collections/fortnightly collection 2016, emailing your questions to admin@frwa.com.au or by calling 8555 7405.

Minister Proposes Changes to the Victor Harbor Development Plan

Council is urging the community to have their say on the State Government’s Victor Harbor Centres and Residential Development Plan Amendment (DPA).

The Minister for Planning released the Victor Harbor Centres and Residential DPA for public consultation on 29 October. The Ministerial DPA looks to rezone land at five different locations within the Council area, including sites located on Waitpinga Road, Waggon Road, Armstrong Road, Adelaide Road/Agnes Gillespie Drive and the Old TAFE site (Adelaide Road/McCracken Drive).

While Council will formally consider the DPA in December, initial concerns have been raised about the potential impost the proposed changes will have on our community, particularly in regard to the provision of infrastructure around the five identified sites.

View Council’s initial comments on the DPA.

Copies of the Ministerial DPA, along with information about how to make submissions, are available from the Council Office or Library and can also be viewed online.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure will hold an information session on Saturday, 28 November 2015 from 10.30am to 2.30pm at the Victor Harbor RSL Club,  10 Coral Street, Victor Harbor.

Banners Celebrate 175 Years of Local Government

Celebrating 175 years of Local Government

To celebrate the 175th anniversary of Local Government in Australia, the City of Victor Harbor invited community groups to design a banner that expresses the theme ‘How my community benefits from my council”.

Designs were received from the Caring Neighbourhood Program’s Dabble and Paint Art Group (pictured above left), the Multi-Joy Playgroup and a Year Six class from Investigator College (pictured above right).

Each banner is a unique interpretation of what Council services, programs and initiatives are important to these groups.

The Caring Neighbourhood Program’s banner was displayed on King William Street along with 68 other banners produced by other South Australian councils.

All banners will be on display in the City of Victor Harbor Council Office until Friday, 20 November 2015.
