Have Your Say: Victor Harbor Dog Park

Victor Harbor Dog Park

The City of Victor Harbor is seeking your feedback on the proposed layout and staging plan of the Victor Harbor Dog Park.

The dog park is set to be located on the vacant land adjacent the Victor Harbor Recreation Centre on the corner of George Main Road and Oval Road.

The proposed dog park is set on 8,350m2 and features:

  • an open space exercise/training area (3,120m2);

  • small dogs enclosure (1,230m2);

  • an area for agility equipment and fixtures;

  • a grassed mound;

  • multiple access points;

  • watering, dog waste bag and deposit stations;

  • sheltered areas and seating;

  • signage.

The development of the Victor Harbor Dog Park is estimated to cost $242,000 and will be rolled out in a staged approached over a number of financial years with sufficient funding for Stage 1 in the 2014/15 budget.

View the proposed layout and staging plan online or collect a hard copy from the Civic Centre, 1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor.

The consultation period closes at 5pm on Friday, 1 May 2015.

Aquatic Centre Construction Tender Released

Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre construction tender has been released.

The tender, which seeks submissions from suitably qualified companies, has been advertised nationally. Companies have until 4 May to respond with their proposals.

Alexandrina Council and City of Victor Harbor Mayors, Keith Parkes and Graham Philp, said the release of the construction tender was a significant project milestone.

“The release of the construction tender means we are one step away from seeing construction activity on this highly anticipated project,” said the Mayors.

“The councils have worked tirelessly to secure an aquatic facility for the Southern Fleurieu, and we are excited to embark on the next stage of this journey – the construction phase.”

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project is currently valued in the vicinity of $20-21 million. The construction tender will determine the market price for the project.

The tender also allows proponents to put forward alternative building materials and construction methods to further reduce construction and operating costs.

It is anticipated the councils will make a decision on the successful tenderer in June, with the construction phase set to commence in July 2015. The facility is expected to be operational by March 2017.

Help Save Pensioner Concessions

More than a quarter of the City of Victor Harbor’s ratepayers will be affected by the State and Federal Government decision to cut funding for council rate concessions. This equates to just under $500,000 assistance each year for our council area.

If the funding gap is not filled, the average City of Victor Harbor ratepayer currently receiving a concession will be faced with an increase of up to $190. This is not acceptable!

Council is calling on residents and ratepayers to help lobby government to get these concessions reinstated. A petition is available for signing at the Civic Centre, Victor Harbor Public Library and Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centre.

The more voices that speak up, the more powerful our message – Council rate concessions need to be maintained by the Federal and State governments for the most vulnerable in our community.
