Victor Viewpoint - October 2015

City of Victor Harbor - Victor Viewpoint

Council Meetings Live-Streamed From October

Live-Stream ButtonCity of Victor Harbor council meetings will be live-streamed via www.victor.sa.gov.au from October 2015 to January 2016 as part of a trial to increase accessibility to Council meetings.

Live-streaming means residents, ratepayers and any other interested party can observe council meetings as they happen on a computer, tablet or mobile device. Streaming will allow members of the public to know the outcome of items they have an interest in as a decision is made rather than waiting for the minutes to be released a few days after the meeting.

Live-streaming council meetings reinforces the Council’s commitment to improving access to meetings and encourages community involvement in local decision making.  The initiative will also benefit to ratepayers and other interested stakeholders who live outside the council area.

On the day of each special and ordinary council meeting a link will be posted to Council’s website providing the public access to the live stream. The first time someone chooses to watch a meeting online they will be required to download relevant software to allow them to view the meeting on their computer, tablet or mobile device.

City of Victor Harbor council meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month from 5.30pm.

Dog Survey Commencing Soon

Is your dog registered?

The City of Victor Harbor will soon commence a dog registration survey. The ultimate aim of the program is to encourage dog registration; however, anyone with an unregistered dog will run the risk of receiving an Expiation of $80.00

It is a State Government requirement that all dogs aged over three months are registered. However, one in five of the dogs collected by Council’s dog management officers are unregistered. This makes it extremely difficult for a lost dog to be reunited with its owner

The dog registration survey allows Council to update its dog database by obtaining accurate information regarding  the number of dogs in our council area.

Authorised  officers conducting the survey are able to enter properties to obtain information regarding unregistered dogs.

Residents are asked to treat the officers conducting the dog registration with respect as they go about their business. All officers will be carrying appropriate identification which can be requested upon entering a property.

The Council will also be using this survey as an opportunity to collect information about cats.

Fleurieu Heritage Experience

Fleurieu Heritage Experience

A new approach to some of South Australia’s best known tourism icons was launched last weekend. The Fleurieu Heritage Experience is a ‘one for all’ ticket onboard Goolwa’s Oscar W Paddle Steamer, the SteamRanger’s Cockle Train to Victor Harbor and the Horse Drawn Tram to Granite Island.

Each are icons in their own right, but nowhere else in the world can people travel on board a real paddle steamer river boat, then catch a ride on a real steam train before crossing the Causeway to Granite Island on a horse-drawn tram.

Add stunning scenery, and maybe a glimpse of whales and other marine-life holidaying in Encounter Bay, and it really is a million dollar view for the price of a train ticket.

The Fleurieu Heritage Experience is an initiative of Alexandrina Council, the City of Victor Harbor,   Friends of the Oscar W, SteamRanger and the Horse Drawn Tram.

Tickets for the Fleurieu Heritage Experience can be purchased from the Goolwa and Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centres from Monday 5 October.

Swains Crossing and Pages Road T-Junction Works

Council has commenced civil works on the upgrade of the Swains Crossing and Pages Road T-junction.

Works involve new asphalt, kerbing, guttering, traffic signage and minor drainage works.

The works site and surrounding area will be subject to lane closures, and the general public is asked to observe and obey signage and barricades that may direct pedestrians and motorists. Normal access routes may be altered during the project.

It is expected works will be complete by the end of December 2015, provided there are no unexpected delays.

A display of the project is available for viewing online or in the Council Office.
