Southern Communities Transport Scheme

The Southern Communities Transport Scheme (SCOTS) involves the coordination of local transport and volunteers as a cost effective means of improving access to services and opportunities for people living in the local area. The scheme assists those who are transport disadvantaged (i.e, we are a last resort) of all age groups. There are two main services, Medi Ride and the Community Shopping Bus. Commercial operators are utilised for local transport where possible.

The scheme is also a transport information resource for the region. Please contact the office to discuss what transport services are available for the region.

SCOTS Office - Please phone 08 8551 0760 or or call into their office at the Civic Centre, located on the corner of Bay Road and George Main Road.

Please note that our office hours are Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm.  If calling outside of these hours, please leave a message with your name and number and we will get back to you the next business day. Email scots@victor.sa.gov.au

SCOTS services

We must have at least two (2) clear working days notice for all of our services or transport will be refused.

Medi Ride

Medi Ride is a door to door community car service available for transport to medical or essential appointments both locally and in Adelaide. Transport can also be provided where possible for visiting nursing homes or hospitals etc. There is a fee schedule.  Please ask about this when booking the trip.

Please note: If you are a patient of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, or a card holder for Veterans Affairs you may be eligible for travel reimbursement from that organisation. If you have limited mobility or a medical condition you may be eligible for the SATSS taxi voucher scheme. Please phone our office for any further information.

Community Shopping Bus

The Community Shopping Bus is a scheduled bus run which provides a door to door service to and from central Victor Harbor. This is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Port Elliot, Victor Harbor & Encounter Bay, and Fridays for Goolwa and Middleton. Please phone the office to book your seat. There is a small fee for service charged.

Aquatic Centre Bus

The Aquatic Bus is a scheduled bus run which provides a door to door service to and from the Aquatic Centre.  This service is available on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for Goolwa, Middleton and Port Elliot . Please phone the office to book a seat or to find out more.

Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer drivers are used extensively in the provision of these services driving the latest model cars and buses. All drivers are subject to police clearance, driving assessments and medical checks as part of their application process.
SCOTS would like to sincerely thank our team of volunteers for their time, effort and kindness. The excellent and caring service they provide is very much appreciated.  You can read more about Volunteering with the City of Victor Harbor.

The scheme, which is designed to assist those who are transport disadvantaged, could not survive without the generosity of the volunteer team, approximately forty five in all.

Volunteer roles include driving the Medi Ride cars, the door-to-door transport service to medical appointments, both locally and to Adelaide.

Volunteer drivers and attendants also operate the Community Shopping Bus. This service is also door-to-door and provides access from Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot, Hayborough and Encounter Bay to central Victor Harbor. The attendants assist with shopping parcels and also lend a hand to clients if necessary. Approximately 9,500 hours are provided annually to the transport scheme, which is a considerable contribution to the communities of the City of Victor Harbor and Alexandrina Council. Especially when bearing in mind that this is only one of the many Council programs where volunteers donate their time and effort, not to mention the Non-Council organisations.

Further Information

For more information in regards to Medi Ride or the Community Shopping Bus please contact the Southern Communities Transport Scheme on 8551 0760, or call into their office at the Civic Centre, located on the corner of Bay Road and George Main Road.

Please note that our office hours are Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm.  If calling outside of these hours, please leave a message with your name and number and we will get back to you the next business day.

The Southern Communities Transport Scheme is governed by a Council Section 41 Committee who meet regularly to discuss strategic and operational issues.
