Tour Down Under on its way to Victor Harbor
World class cyclists will be looping around Victor Harbor multiple times when the Santos Tour Down Under comes to town on Thursday, 19 January.
The City of Victor Harbor is excited to be hosting the Hansgrohe Stage 3 finish of the internationally acclaimed cycling event.
“The 13 kilometre finishing circuit that involves four loops around the Ring Road before finishing in the town centre is a real win for us. Never before has there been an opportunity for spectators to see this much action during a Tour Down Under event in Victor Harbor,” said City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp.
“A road side spot is sure be prime real estate along the race route, and spectators are encouraged to secure their vantage points by 1pm to ensure they don’t miss the action.”
The pro cyclists are expected to arrive in town around 1.30pm before looping around Victor Harbor and finishing on The Esplanade (opposite Warland Reserve) around 3pm.
To ensure the safety of riders, spectators and motorists, a number of road closures will be in place for the event and traffic congestion is expected. Traffic management information (including road closures and detours) is available online or at the Council Office (1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor).
“We know from past experience that it is extremely busy and congested on the roads in the town centre during the event, and with the three lap route the roads will be even more congested,” said Mayor Philp.
“We recommend that you avoid driving through the town centre between 1pm and 3pm, and plan your travel before or afterwards to allow plenty of time to get to any pressing appointments.”
“If you are not sure about the road closures or detours, please contact Council and we will be able to assist.”
The 2017 Santos Tour Down Under will be held from Saturday 14 January until Sunday 22 January. Visit www.tourdownunder.com.au for all the details.
