Dog Registration Survey Commencing in Victor Harbor
The City of Victor Harbor will soon commence a dog registration survey. The ultimate aim of the program is to encourage dog registration; however, anyone with an unregistered dog will run the risk of receiving a fine of up to $80.
It is a State Government requirement that all dogs aged over three months are registered. However, one in five of the dogs collected by Council’s dog management officers are unregistered. This makes it extremely difficult for a lost dog to be reunited with its owner.
The dog survey allows Council to update its dog database by obtaining accurate information regarding the number of dogs in our council area.
Authorised officers conducting the survey are able to enter properties to obtain information regarding unregistered dogs.
“Residents are asked to treat the officers conducting the dog registration with respect as they go about their business. All officers will be carrying appropriate identification which residents can request to see when the officers enter a property,” said City of Victor Harbor’s Director of Planning and Regulatory Services, Graham Pathuis
“Owner’s of unregistered dogs are put on notice, and asked to come forward voluntarily and register their dogs before expiation notices are issued.”
The Council will also be using this survey as an opportunity to collect information about cats.
