Do you want to see an arts and culture centre in Victor Harbor?

Victor Harbor residents, visitors and businesses are being encouraged to provide feedback on concept plans for an arts and culture centre.

The proposed Coral Street Arts and Culture Centre will be a hub for Victor Harbor’s flourishing cultural and artistic activity. As the Fleurieu Peninsula’s regional arts facility it will be a place for locals and visitors to come together while engaging with the arts, culture and each other.

The proposed arts and culture centre involves the redevelopment of the State heritage listed Town Hall and Old Library buildings on Coral Street in Victor Harbor’s Mainstreet Precinct. The concept shows the existing heritage and design character of each building is retained, while creating a contemporary community-focussed arts and culture facility.

Other key elements of the proposed redevelopment include:

  • A seated hall with a 275 seat capacity including orchestra pit and relevant amenities (dressing room, loading dock, stage lift, storage etc.)
  • A meeting room and administration areas
  • Gallery and gallery workshop with movable walls for customisable configuration of display areas (can accommodate 60 people in conference format and up to 200 people in cocktail format)
  • Workshop space
  • Kitchen/bar for events catering and beverage service
  • Lobby area for reception and cocktail functions
  • Commissioning of a Ngarrindjeri artists for design elements in lobby screen.

Preliminary cost estimates suggest the redevelopment may cost $5 million, while an opportunities assessment indicates potential for a return of $1.3 million in new annual spending locally.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp said the proposed Coral Street Arts and Culture Centre aims to be a hub for Victor Harbor’s flourishing artistic and cultural sectors.

“The proposed Coral Street Arts and Culture will not only provide a regional arts facility in Victor Harbor, it will contribute to community wellbeing and boost local economic activity,” said Mayor Philp.

“I encourage members of our community to take the time to view the concept plan for the proposed Coral Street Arts and Culture Centre and provide Council with your feedback.”

“We want to hear your thoughts on what is being proposed, and your ideas about what Victor Harbor needs for, and in, an arts and culture centre.”

View the concept plan online at www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au and share your thoughts with the City of Victor Harbor before 5pm on Friday, 16 February 2018.
