Overwhelming response to Victor Harbor Business Survey

Council’s Economic Development Officer Mark Przibilla, Deputy Mayor Nicholas Hayles, VHBA President Nick Gormley and winner Ken CollinsonOver 170 Victor Harbor business leaders responded to a survey that will help both the City of Victor Harbor and Victor Harbor and District Business Association (VHBA) tailor support to local businesses.

Business leaders were asked to allocate five minutes to complete the short survey in early December 2016.

The survey included a series of questions relating to the nature of their business, how their business has performed in recent times, their views on the business environment and the types of services that would help grow and sustain their businesses.

The data collected from the survey is currently being collated and analysed, before forming a report that will be presented to both organisations and the broader business community in the coming months.

City of Victor Harbor Deputy Mayor Nicholas Hayles said capturing the information direct from business owners is of incredibly value.

“Instead of basing our programs, projects and initiatives on third-hand data, the survey allows us to hear directly from our local business community,” said Mr Hayles.

“The overwhelming number of responses is a really good sample of local businesses in our community and provides for a credible assessment of the challenges and opportunities faced.”

Victor Harbor Business Association President Nick Gormley echoed the comments of the Deputy Mayor.

“Victor Harbor businesses will only benefit from this exercise over time as the data collected will be used to inform economic development priorities for the Council and the business association,’ said Mr Gormley.

It is planned that the Victor Harbor business survey will occur annually, allowing the data to be benchmarked each year to provide an insight into the trends in local business needs, expectations and confidence.

Both the City of Victor Harbor and VHBA extend their sincere thanks to all the business leaders who took the time to complete the survey and contribute to building an even better environment for local business to grow and thrive.

As an added incentive for businesses to complete the survey the VBHA sponsored an iPad mini to be awarded to a participating business in a random draw.

It is expected a detailed report with the results of the business survey will be released in March.
