Distribution of old Causeway timbers
Council understands that community groups and organisations are interested in distribution of timber from the old Causeway.
Please note that distribution of the Causeway timber remains under the control of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport. Both the Department and Council are keen to see as much as possible of the beautiful old Causeway timber used in projects that benefit the community.
The Department has determined that while there are no safety concerns associated with public use of the former Causeway or the new viewing platforms, due to the presence of elements such as bitumen and lead in the timber, it is not currently suitable for release to individuals.
Council continues to liaise closely with the Department to determine the best utilisation for any suitable timber for the benefit of community.
