Protect Victor Harbor's Hooded Plover Chicks

Published 27th February 2024
Three Hooded Plover chicks have been identified along the City of Victor Harbor coastline. Let's work together to protect them!

Hooded Plover chicks have recently been spotted at the Inman River Estuary and adjacent Bridge Terrace (near the Victor Harbor Croquet Club).

Hooded Plover chicks are extremely vulnerable. They need to move up and down the beach and along the water’s edge to find food. If a threat comes along (for example, an off-leash dog or a fox) they cannot fly away to escape.

You can help to protect the chicks by:

  • Leashing your dog when within 50 metres of nesting sites - this is required under the City of Victor Harbor's Dogs By-law
  • Adhering to all signage along beaches
  • Always allowing ample space around nesting sites
  • Spreading the message to your friends and family

Let's work together to keep this endangered species alive.
