The results from the 2023 Liveability Census show an astounding tick of approval for Victor Harbor as a place to live, work, visit and invest.

Earlier this year, the Australian Liveability Census was undertaken. The results show an astounding tick of approval for Victor Harbor as a place to live, work, visit and invest.

Victor Harbor achieved an overall liveability score of 71, compared with 67 nationally. Meanwhile, 85% were satisfied with liveability in their local neighbourhood, compared with 82% nationally.

The research showed that Victor Harbor’s greatest strength in terms of liveability was elements of the natural environment (natural features, views, vegetation, topography, water, wildlife, etc).

The top five areas where Victor Harbor is performing better than the national average are:

  • Sense of neighbourhood safety
  • Local history, historic buildings or features
  • Range of housing prices and tenures
  • Evidence of community activity
  • Landmarks, special features and meeting places

While the results were overwhelmingly positive, there is always room for improvement.

Victor Harbor performed lower than the national average when it came to child services, local employment opportunities and local education opportunities. 25-44 year olds were the least satisfied with liveability in their local neighbourhood.

Council has been working towards addressing these priorities for some time.
