Council budget released for community feedback

The City of Victor Harbor is seeking feedback on its draft 2016/17 Annual Business Plan and Budget.

The $25.5 million expenditure budget delivers a surplus of $482,200, and aims to deliver services and capital works to meet the needs of our community while keeping rate increases as low as possible.

“This budget is about investing in the future of Victor Harbor and supporting our growing regional community,” said City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp.

“Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that Victor Harbor is one of the fastest growing regional communities in South Australia, and we need to ensure we have the appropriate services and infrastructure in place to support this growth.”

“The draft 2016/17 budget shows Council undertaking major projects including year two of the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre construction, civil works for Stages 1 and 2 of the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct upgrade, the Bluff Boat Ramp Car Park Extension, the completion of the Ocean Road upgrade and development of the Railway Turntable viewing platform, while delivering the lowest rate increase in over a decade.”

Council has budgeted to raise $19.8 million through council rates. For ratepayers this will mean an average increase on last year’s rates of 2.2%. This will result in the average ratepayer paying approximately $1,860 in 2016/17 compared to $1,820 in 2015/16 – an increase of $40 for the year.

“The City of Victor Harbor continues in a financially sustainable position with a modest operating surplus allowing for the continuation of current services, as well as allowances for new projects and capital infrastructure that may be required in the next year,” said Mayor Philp.
