Frequently Asked Questions

Why was the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct Master Plan developed?

Victor Harbor is a growing community and is also considered to be the service hub of the southern Fleurieu. The Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct Master Plan provides Council with a strategic urban design framework that will help to manage and enhance pubic areas in the Mainstreet Precinct. It will ensure a consistent approach to significant streetscape works that will activate and provide better links within the Town Centre.

The Plan was not designed to be a quick fix. Rather it is a blueprint for a staged upgrade the heart of Victor Harbor’s Town Centre, enabling Council to leverage grant funding to assist with construction costs.

Who is delivering the Stage Four construction works?

South Australian company, Outside Ideas has been appointed to deliver Stage Four construction works. Outside Ideas was previously contracted to deliver Stage One and Stage Two of the Mainstreet Upgrade, completed in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Outside Ideas is a commercial landscaping and civil engineering firm with a portfolio that encompasses a number of high-profile projects from across the state.

What does Stage Four construction works involve?

The project will continue similar streetscape improvements as previous stages and will focus on improved pedestrian usability, street greening, inclusion of public art, and enhancing the overall appearance of the area to show the Mainstreet Precinct’s importance to locals and visitors. The design will see the widening of footpaths, increased alfresco dining opportunities, public seating, more street trees and garden beds.

How will Council let the community know what’s happening during the construction period?

Council will use a diverse range of methods to share information about the upgrade with the community. This website will be the central source of information. Council will also share updates via its monthly e-newsletter, Victor Viewpoint and its social media channels. There will be a display in the Civic Centre and stories may be published in local newspapers.

A dedicated project hotline has been set up and should be the first point of call, 1300 421 015.

Can I still access the Mainstreet Precinct during construction?

Yes, the Mainstreet Precinct remains open for business during the construction works.

Where can I park?

Directional signage will be provided within the Precinct during construction to help people access car parks. Significant emphasis will be placed on the parking areas within McKinlay Street, along the Foreshore and near the many laneways that connect to Ocean Street.

A number of express 15 minute car parks have been established just outside of the construction area to enable the public to undertake quick pick-ups / drop-offs to Mainstreet businesses.
