LED Street Light Changeover Project
The City of Victor Harbor will be one of the first regional councils in South Australia to change all residential street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED).
This will represent the single greatest electricity reduction project in the Council’s history. The transition to LED street lights will save the Council an estimated $2.8 million over the life of the new lights, at the same time as reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3,200 tonne.
Street lighting is necessary but very expensive for councils to run. It is also the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.
About the project
When will the project commence? The LED Street Light Changeover project will commence on 10 February 2020. It will take approximately four weeks to changeover around 1,500 street lights across the Council area.
Who will be undertaking the works? The changeover to LED lights is being undertaken by SA Power Networks, who have been engaged by Council.
When will works happen in my street? The field crews will progressively make their way across the Council area over a four week period. Works will start in Encounter Bay, then move to Victor Harbor, McCracken, Hayborough and then Hindmarsh Valley.
A weekly update of progress will be posted to this web page and be made also be available at the Civic Centre (1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor).
How do I report faults or make enquiries? To report a street light not working or operating during day light hours, you can visit the SA Power Networks website and report the fault. In the first instance you can contact SA Power Networks, on 13 12 61, who will investigate resident requests.
What do I do if I have concerns about the new LED street lights? In the first instance you can contact the City of Victor Harbor, who will take down your details and forward to SA Power Networks if the inquiry can’t be resolved.

Progress report
The single greatest electricity reduction project in the City of Victor Harbor's history officially begun on February 10 with work commencing in Encounter Bay.
SA Power Networks have been engaged by Council to undertake the works, taking approximately four weeks to complete, and will progressively move from Encounter Bay, to Victor Harbor, McCracken, Hayborough and then Hindmarsh Valley.
The below map shows the areas that have been installed with LED lights (including existing LED lights) and those areas still to be changed in the coming weeks.
