Kaldowinyeri Yarluki, Granite Island Causeway

Published 25th January 2023
'Kaldowinyeri Yarluki', which translates to Dreaming Track, is the official name that has been assigned to the new Granite Island Causeway.

The name officially came into effect upon being published in the South Australian Government Gazette dated 19 January 2023.

Kaldowinyeri Yarluki is an important and iconic landmark in Victor Harbor, linking Granite Island to the mainland.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport chose a name that acknowledges Granite Island's cultural significance to Traditional Owners, the Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri people.

The name complements other nods to Traditional Owners, including the sculpture at the beginning of the Causeway and artwork along the Causeway's length.

Next time you visit Granite Island, we encourage you to reflect on the history of First Nations peoples and their connection to our land and waters.
