Wright Island Weed Control Burn-off
Wright Island – Weed Control – Controlled Burn Off
Contractors engaged by Natural Resources Adelaide & Mount Lofty Ranges, in consultation with the City of Victor Harbor as land manager, has recently undertaken priority weed control of the highly invasive African Boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum) on Wright Island.
Works concentrated on the sandy areas adjacent to the beach where recent years have seen significant breeding activity of the Crested and Caspian Terns, and previously Little Penguins.
A planned burn-off of excess debris from the weed control will be undertaken to allow for revegetation of local native species which will improve the nesting habitat.
The burn off will take place on a date yet to be determined (weather dependent).
