Did you know that South Australia’s oldest shipwreck lies in Encounter Bay?
The South Australian Company barque South Australian, full of free settlers, was driven ashore in a storm 82 years-ago on 8 December 1837.
After earlier unsuccessful attempts to locate the wreck site, the mystery was solved in 2018 after diligent underwater investigations were completed by a collaborative team of experts.
Join the South Australian Maritime Museum at the Victor Harbor Public Library this Friday evening to learn about the forensic journey of locating a wreck site and the archaeological work that has begun since its discovery.
Doors open at 6.00pm, Civic Centre, 1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor
