Step back in time through the doors of the Encounter Coast Discovery Centre and be amazed at this audio visual interpretation of the magic of Dreamtime, struggles of early settlers, local whaling heritage and to current times. The Encounter Coast Discovery Centre officially opened on Boxing Day December 26, 1997. Jointly funded by the State & Federal Governments and National Trust Victor Harbor Branch, the Centre was designed by John Perkins. Collaborating with the team of National Trust volunteers, the design was developed so that all historic information could be effectively displayed in an appealing manner.
Released in early July 2004, a new brochure entitled 'Heritage Walking Trail - Old Port Victor' has been developed cooperatively between the National Trust of Victor Harbor and the City of Victor Harbor council. The brochure details 21 historical points of interest and is designed as a self-guided walking tour in and around the Victor Harbor CBD. The brochure relives some of Victor Harbor's treasured landmarks such as the Anchorage (formerly known as 'Warringa'), the Railway Gates (the only hand operated gates remaining in South Australia) and the Old Customs & Stationmasters House where the tour commences.
