History events in Victor Harbor

Victor Harbor’s rich history will be celebrated throughout May as a part of South Australia’s History Festival.

There will be a number of events and activities including the launch of the Victor Harbor Heritage Discovery Trail at the National Trust on Wednesday, 9 May at 2pm.

The new Discovery Trail complements the Town Centre Heritage Trail that was launched last year, and highlights sites of heritage significance outside of the town centre. The self-guided trail shares the stories of 26 sites including Adare and Mount Brecken.

Following the launch of the Discovery Trail there will be an exclusive guided bus tour of significant heritage sites around Victor Harbor. Bookings for the bus tour are essential as seats are limited. Reserve your spot at the National Trust which is open 1pm to 4pm daily.

The Victor Harbor RSL Sub Branch have also jumped on board for history month by hosting an exhibition about the rich history of local servicemen. It will be held at the RSL Clubrooms on Coral Street on 9, 16, 23 and 30 May between 1pm and 3pm.

A new projection created by emerging South Australian digital artist Sue Wegener will run each night on the façade of the Victa Cinema throughout May.

The Encounter Bay Family History Group will host a workshop on South Australian family history resources in the Victor Harbor Public Library on 10 May.

The Victor Harbor Public Library launch its new ‘history phone’ where people will be able to dial stories of the past from the oral history collection.

City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp said he is thrilled to see events in Victor Harbor for the State’s history festival.

“We have a great program of events on offer in Victor Harbor during May to coincide with the South Australian History Festival,” said Mayor Philp.

“These events are a great way to share and promote Victor Harbor’s rich history. I am particularly pleased to see the stories captured through the City of Victor Harbor’s public library being used on our new history phone.”
