Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Construction Milestone Reached

Construction of the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre is on-track with Milestone Five (40 per cent completion) reached this week.

Federal Member for Mayo Jamie Briggs, together with City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp and Alexandrina Council Mayor Keith Parkes visited the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre site on Tuesday to view the construction progress.

The Hon Jamie Briggs MP said that he was pleased to see this highly anticipated project underway and progressing on schedule.

“This project will be an important addition to the South Coast community, which is why I am proud to be delivering on my election commitment to see the centre fully built,” Mr Briggs said.

The project is on schedule, despite recent heavy rainfall in early-February. The warm water pool floor and wall have recently been completed and the concrete has been poured for the 25-metre pool. The internal framing of the facility is also underway, which defines the different areas of the facility. The roof is now complete over the first stage structure and the 30metre trusses for the next stage arrive in March.

“I am thrilled to see construction meeting targets and the site taking shape; it means residents are closer than ever to seeing this project come alive,” Mr Briggs said.

Alexandrina Council Mayor Keith Parkes and City of Victor Harbor Mayor Graham Philp said they were proud of the project’s progression.

“It is fantastic to have Federal Member for Mayo Jamie Briggs on-site to view the progress of the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre,” the mayors said.

“We urge the community to keep updated on the project by visiting www.fleurieuaquaticcentre.com.au and reading the weekly updates and signing up for the regular newsletter.”

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre project presents Fleurieu Peninsula communities with an exciting and unique opportunity to provide valuable input into the proposed construction of a modern sport and recreation facility.

This project involves the construction of an environmentally sustainable indoor aquatic centre consisting of an 8 lane, 25-metre lap swimming pool, a warm water pool for therapy and rehabilitation purposes, a recreation and learn to swim pool, an outdoor ‘splash and play’ park, a commercial kiosk, office accommodation, dedicated change rooms and toilets and car and bus parking and pedestrian linkages.

The Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre is a jointly funded project with the Australian Government contributing $7.5 million, City of Victor Harbor $6.50 million, Alexandrina Council $6.50 million, the South Australian Government $500,000 and the Alexandrina Art Committee $20,000.

The project is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
