Have your say on council’s draft 2018/19 Annual Business Plan and Budget

The City of Victor Harbor has released its draft 2018/19 Annual Business Plan and Budget for community feedback.

The $34.7 million budget aims to balance community needs against cost of living pressures, while minimising rate increases.

Council is proposing a capital works program worth $7.4 million, and $27.3 million operating expenditure resulting in a deficit of just under $201,000.

Mayor Philp said the draft budget aims to assist Victor Harbor to hold its position as South Australia’s premier coastal town.

“After years of hard work by both the community and council, Victor Harbor is sitting in a pleasing position. However, we can’t be complacent. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for the council to show leadership and carefully plan for Victor Harbor’s bright future,” said Mayor Philp.

“We have presented a draft budget that delivers services, programs and infrastructure projects that aim to meet the needs of our community, at the same time as providing ratepayers value for money.”

The draft 2018/19 budget shows the City of Victor Harbor investing $3.2 million in community services, $3.5 million on economic development and tourism, $4.3 million on coastal protection and environmental initiatives, and $10.2 million on roads, footpaths, bridges and other infrastructure.

Council is proposing to undertake a number of significant projects including the delivery of Stage 2 of the Mainstreet Precinct Master Plan which will transform the northern end of Ocean Street, upgrade of Victor Harbor’s premier playground at George T Fisher Reserve, Stage 3 of the Waitpinga Road reconstruction, and commencement of works for the Adelaide Road corridor footpath and crossing master plan.

The draft budget shows council rates increasing on average by 3.5% across all rating categories. For residential ratepayers this will mean an average increase of $67 compared to last year.

Mayor Philp encouraged City of Victor Harbor residents and ratepayers to take a look at the council’s draft Annual Business Plan and Budget and share their feedback with council.

“Gathering community feedback is an important part of our budgeting process,” said Mayor Philp.

“We want to know what our community’s priorities are. What do people think of the mix of services and infrastructure projects we have presented? Are there things that the community want to see added or removed?”

“This budget consultation period is the community’s chance to provide their input into the budget, and I really encourage residents and ratepayers to get involved.”

Copies of the draft 2018/19 Annual Business Plan and Budget can be downloaded at www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au or viewed at the Civic Centre (1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor).

The community will have an opportunity to ask questions, get more information or make a verbal submission on the draft plan at a public information session on Thursday, 7 June 2018 from 6.30pm in the Council Chambers.
